BMW April 2022

With a name like Corolla that enjoys great heritage, especially in the South African market, clients have been looking forward to the next generation of this brand. And the latest Corolla Cross definitely doesn’t disappoint. It is proudly made right here in Mzansi in the Prospecton plant in Durban and we have much to be proud of with this model.

This car is perfect for a family that enjoys adventures on and off the beaten track, thanks to the ride height. It has inviting good looks and proportions that in this SUV allows for generous space inside the vehicle, whether in the front, rear or the boot.

The Corolla Cross comes with two engine options – a 1.8 litre petrol engine and an ultra-fuel efficient 1.8 litre Hybrid. This cross pollination of fuel and hybrid allows for the extra mileage that the local market needs on a daily basis and is a great stepping stone for customers who want to remain environmentally friendly in their choice of transport. A three-grade strategy has been adopted, using Toyota’s familiar Xi, Xs and Xr nomenclature found across other Toyota passenger vehicles.

The dynamic nature of the design allows little body roll and the end result is a very smooth ride. It’s hard to differentiate between the two models as they both perform and feel identical. Consumption is stated to be a rate of 4.3 in the Hybrid thanks to the CVT technology incorporated in the engine.

The Xr models afford more security with adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane trace assist and pre-collision systems. The other models still include ABS, EBD and hill assist control, vehicle stability control and several air bags.

With elongated front headlamps and a noticeable grille it is very sleek and elongated in appearance. Great visibility from the driver’s seat is what this new shape affords with double stitching and other well considered soft-touch elements.

The Corolla Cross 1.8 Xi starts at R349 900 and the Corolla Cross 1.8 Hybrid XS starts at R413 000.
