Throughout the year Automotive Refinisher has been following the progress of the Mipa and Vican brands as they grow their dealer footprint across South Africa. The expansion of the popular German manufactured Mipa paint brand and locally produced Vican brands such as Vollux, Superlight, Glaker and Noval, have been welcomed by the repair market, thanks to the great quality and coverage of the product – and at an affordable price tag.

Nazeer Ismael Omar from OBM Automotive in Klerksdorp is one such dealer who has seen the popularity of these brands increasing. Nazeer started his family run business with the help of his brothers after he saw an opportunity in Klerksdorp to supply quality refinishing products and replacement parts at a reasonable price. Opening his doors over two and a half years ago, OBM Automotive began selling Vican in the middle of 2016. The branch is now complete with a Mipa mixing bank and has doubled their colour matching orders. Deliveries from suppliers are always on time so he is able to satisfy the demand of his clients as he services over a hundred customers from around the North Western province selling over 5 000 litres of paint a month.

With Nazeer’s dedicated band of five employees they are excited to see winter nearing it’s end as they look forward to increased business that the summer months bring on the Highveld. They sell everything from sandpaper to 2K, basecoat, primers, clearcoats and hardeners. With increased interest from the bigger body shops for their Mipa range of automotive paints and ancillaries, they are looking forward to even more business opportunities.

In closing Nazeer said: “With government starting to push more work to BEE body repair shops at the beginning of next year, we will see some of our smaller customers growing their business, which in turn will see OBM Automotive grow, so the future looks a little more promising for body repair on the whole.”
