Body shops with a track record of close to 60 years of successful activity are few and far between, but Graham’s Spray Works and Auto Body Repairs in Paarl, Western Cape is one of them. It all started with Manfred Graham, who passed away in May this year at the great age of 90. He qualified as a spray painter after leaving the navy and became the stuff of legends as the company prospered in the local area.

The company occupies the same piece of ground that was purchased in the late 60’s and business today is carried out by the family of Hugh and Yvonne Graham, who look after the finance side of the operation. Morné Vermeulen is assigned to the overall detail of production output and brings with him an insurance knowledge background after having worked for Santam as an area manager.

“We have key personnel at Graham’s Spray Works and Auto Body Repairs capable of resolving problems very quickly. With a staff complement of 30, Graham’s Spray Works and Auto Body Repairs holds regular in-house training for productivity improvements. “We are able to reap the benefits of better confidence and productivity of our workforce because of this,” says Vermeulen.

The ongoing success proves it. “This business remains one of having a human approach and operating with good ethics for the  client. This involves keeping the client fully informed about the repair progress of their damaged vehicle in our workshop. We always go out of our way to be fair and honest with our customers,” said Vermeulen.

Expanding and investing in new methods and equipment for body repair has seen Graham’s Spray Works and Auto Body Repairs recently obtain VW and Audi repair approvals. They are a multi-structural repair centre and the company has another 10 repairer approval badges and deal with major insurance companies. Graham’s Spray Works and Auto Body Repairs enjoys a solid, local client base. They can pick up both local and long distance damaged vehicles as they operate a 24-hour service.

“The future of the family business,” says Vermeulen “is to keep up the good and solid family values approach that has stood the company in great stead over the years. It’s all about keeping your good people on board and delivering top customer repairs on time in a very honest manner. The secret is returning the damaged vehicles with a right first time repair, as making a repair fast and easy for the client always yields great results for all concerned.

“In these days of increased administrative levels from insurers it is not an easy task to achieve but we strive to complete each task on time at Graham’s Spray Works and Auto Body Repairs,” concluded Vermeulen.
