For the the past three years Glasurit has been the exclusive global partner of Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA), the international federation of historic vehicle clubs. The success achieved by the partnership has now prompted FIVA to sign a new agreement in which it extends and intensifies its collaboration with Glasurit, BASF’s traditional premium paint brand.

“As FIVA’s exclusive partner for all matters related to paint and refinishing, Glasurit has taken on the role of a global technical consultant for all paint-related matters,” explained FIVA Vice President Dr. Mario Theissen. “Glasurit has made an important contribution to the work of the FIVA commissions.

Especially significant is the work by Jürgen Book, Classic Cars Manager at BASF’s Coatings division, who collaborated in writing the Charter of Turin Handbook. All topics related to paint are a real challenge when vintage vehicles are maintained and restored. Thanks to Glasurit, FIVA and its members can now tap into the know-how of an industry leader.”

Book was recently awarded the “Golden Piston 2019” at the Bremen Classic Motorshow. Since 2006 the Forum für Fahrzeuggeschichte (Vehicle History Forum), better known as F-kubik or F3, has presented this award to an individual who stands out for his or her exceptional achievement promoting authenticity in the documentation of automotive history.

The jury particularly recognised Book’s role as the initiator of the Glasurit Classic Car Colors programme, for which he helped set up the world’s largest colour database as a contribution to preserving automotive history.

Glasurit offers Classic Car Colors to support millions of classic car owners worldwide in all paint-related matters. Book, who has worked at BASF’s Automotive Refinish Coatings Solutions business unit since 1975, was appointed head of the Classic Cars unit in 2017 – the first full-time position worldwide within the paint industry dedicated to this area. Book’s active engagement with car manufacturers, classic car clubs, museums and private collectors ensures that the archive containing thousands of historic sample panels continues to grow. These authentic colors can then be reproduced with state-of-the-art, legislation-compliant paint technology.

Book’s enthusiastic and active commitment has helped make Glasurit the most prestigious brand in the classic car refinishing sector. The Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA), the international federation of historic vehicle clubs, also values Glasurit’s outstanding competence and Book as the classic car standard-bearer.

Glasurit highly values the partnership with FIVA. “The co-operation has really raised our profile and has also enabled us to achieve recognition for our technical competency on the classic car scene. The wealth of questions raised by the classic car fans are helping us to see what needs still are out there beyond the developing of historic colours,” Book explained.

FIVA is the only global organisation of its kind aiming to encourage the safe use on the roads of historic, self-propelled, mechanical vehicles, while remaining equally focused on preserving and promoting the very culture of motoring. In 2016, FIVA celebrated its 50th anniversary with the FIVA World Motoring Heritage Year programme under the formal patronage of UNESCO.
