Clearcoat products are the first defense to a car’s exterior and extends the life of the paint coat. However, we all know how challenging it can be to get that perfect finish. So here are a few tips and tricks that can help you throughout the process.

Getting the perfect result starts with mixing, which follows a standard process. The clearcoat consist of three components, the clearcoat, the hardener and thinner. It is necessary that you measure all parts when mixing, making sure they are correctly proportioned to prevent the clearcoat from thickening even before you have finished using it.

The ratio followed for mixing the ProClass clearcoat is 2:1:10%. This means that for one litre of ready for use, you need: 625ml (2 parts) of clearcoat, 312.5ml (1 part) of hardener and 62.5ml (10% of clearcoat) thinner. Mixing it correctly will ensure that the consistency of your clearcoat is thin enough to pass through the paint gun you use.

When you have finished preparing the mixture, take your paint gun and set its filter cone on top of it. Proceed to pour your clearcoat into the spray gun. The ProClass clearcoat spray application is best at a pressure setting of two bar by using a suitable spray gun with a 1.3 nozzle set up, and an application distance between 15-20 cm from the panel. This gives the panel an even coating that matches OEM finishes.

When applying the clearcoat, take your time. Moving carefully and overlapping coverage ensures that you apply the clearcoat evenly. The clearcoat should be thin but have enough coverage that there are no holes in the layers.

Clearcoats require multiple layers to cover every area of the paint. With the Glasurit ProClass range, you may do 1.5 or two spray coats. The ProClass clearcoat saves you time as there are no flash off periods between coats and has quick drying times through different curing methods.

As the application process is similar to other clearcoats – making it easier to transition from your current product – the finish is where the Glasurit ProClass clearcoat stands out. With exceptional gloss levels, the Glasurit ProClass clearcoats stands tall amongst the rest of the industry.
