If you’re in the mood for a rags-to-riches story, just read on. West Rand Panel Beaters, is a business that was started with just R600 way back in 1978. It was the brainchild of Pieter Nagel, who entered the body shop business with an insurance background.

Sheer passion and an appetite for success saw Pieter strike out on his own on Main Reef Road and the family business was born. His wife Janette managed the financial side in the embryonic concern. She is now CEO at the business today. Pieter was always a good listener and had a vision for the future, so he ploughed back profits into the latest technology and equipment to become a world class collision repair centre. West Rand Panel Beaters were the first company to invest in modern work flow technology in their paint shop. With two imported spraybooths coupled to the then unheard of dust free down draft spraybooths, the company’s success simply zoomed ahead.

The Nagel sons, Mark and Tony, trained as body shop panel beaters and spray painters to bolster the company with more expertise. Sadly, Pieter passed away suddenly seven years ago and Mark, with his decade of experience already, took control as managing director. Mark and Tony have gone on to take their company to even higher levels. Today West Rand Panel Beaters carry almost all of the major approvals from manufacturers including VW, Toyota and Hyundai, to mention just a few.

“We have amazing staff commitment,” says Tony. “Some of our first employees are still with the company. We focus on training and upgrading the knowledge of our staff to keep pace with the ever-changing car repairs. We’re able to celebrate our 40 years of success because this ideal has been at the very heart of West Rand Panel Beater’s continued success.”

Janette added, at the company anniversary celebrations, that never in her wildest dreams did she think that West Rand Panel Beaters would ever become the huge success that she’s been privileged to see unfold down the years. The company has gone on to deliver great rewards for the Nagel family. In its 40 years of business it has come at huge sacrifice in terms of effort and endurance to make it all such a success story.
